The fact that it was a drunk driving act alone was already unforgiven, Kim Ho-joong continued to face harsh criticism from the public due to his lies to cover up the case. Immediately after causing the accident, he asked his manager to make a false statement. In addition, the CEO and director of his agency also ordered the black box memory card that recorded the accident scene to be removed. Even after the manager’s fake statement was found out, Kim Ho-joong still denied his charges and continued going on the stage to perform his scheduled concerts.

As a result, Kim Ho-joong was arrested. This was a rare case of a celebrity being imprisoned for drunk driving. Kim Ho-joong’s side filed an appeal but the prosecution, which initially requested an imprisonment of 3 years and 6 months, also appealed. The court, therefore, extended Kim Ho-joong’s detention until February.

■ BTS’s Suga

BTS’s Suga shocked the public when he was booked on charges of riding a scooter under the influence of alcohol in August. After participating in a drinking party, he returned home using an electric scooter but got caught by the police who helped him get up when he fell on the sidewalk. Suga’s blood alcohol concentration level at that time was 0.2227%, which was enough for a license revocation. The fact that it happened during Suga’s military service period caused the public to be angrier.
